Mid-Atlantic Regional Project Manager

Greg Burnshaw - Mid-atlantic Regional Project Manager

Greg Burnshaw

Greg has a background in art, construction and interior design, for which he received his bachelor degree from the University of Delaware in 1987. After serving as an army officer in Europe, he returned and worked in several design and sales positions before joining Woodhouse® in 1993. At Woodhouse®, he has held key positions involving national sales and project coordination. Greg is candid and maintains a genuine integrity in his association with his long list of satisfied homeowners.

Currently, Greg is focused on the Mid Atlantic region (DE, MD, VA, W.Va, NJ and PA) where he works with clients directly and manages a builder/dealer network. His passion for aesthetics coupled with his enthusiasm for timber frame construction makes him an asset to your building experience.

NY/New England Regional Project Manager

David Raabe - NY/New England Regional Project ManagerDavid Raabe

Dave developed a passion for building early in childhood. Visits to his grandfather’s furniture factory always meant returning home with a cardboard box of wood scraps, which soon became boats and other creations. In high school Dave studied architectural drafting and became interested in designing houses. As a business and communications major in college,  a love of photography lead him toward his first career in marketing and advertising. Driven by a desire to follow his passion, he returned to college to study architecture and construction. Dave worked briefly for an architect before landing a position with a timber frame company in 1997. In timber framing Dave discovered his true talent — working with customers from first contact through design and construction. Dave says joining Woodhouse allows him to truly invest in his clients, focusing on their needs and providing excellent design and timeless craftsmanship.

Currently Dave is focused on the NY/New England region including: NY, CT, RI, NH, MA, VT & ME.

Southeastern Regional Project Manager

Don Downs - Southeastern Regional Project ManagerDon Downs

Don has a lifelong passion for everything about houses, with a special interest in both traditional and contemporary design. His introduction to the craft of timber framing, back in 1997,  involved hand-cutting timbers and doing frame and structural insulated panel installations at jobsites. This was a natural outgrowth of his earlier experience as a historic restoration carpenter, remodeler, and woodworker. He particularly loved the challenge of applying trigonometry to the layout of intricate timber joints, but was soon drawn to the project management side of the business.  Although he still enjoys the occasional opportunity to use his framing mallet and chisels, he loves being involved with projects from start to finish. Don has a dedication to exceptional customer service, and strives to help each client realize their vision for their project.

Don manages Woodhouse® projects in NC, SC, GA, FL, AL, MS, TN, AR, & LA, both directly and through our Independent Builder Dealer network.

Western Regional Project Manager

Ben Avila - Western Regional Project ManagerBen Avila

Ben Avila grew up in Parker, Colorado and is a fourth generation Coloradoan. He began his career in 1998 literally from the ground up starting with foundations to trim carpenter. Ben has been a tool belt general contractor, meaning he’s swinging the hammer along with everyone else at the job site.  He is a perfectionist and requires the same from the people that work with him. Ben has built many Timberframes homes from Jackson Hole to Breckenridge and can help with all aspects of your build.

Ben manages Woodhouse® projects in MO, NE, KS, OK, TX, NM, CO, WY, MT, ID, UT, AZ, WA, OR, NV, CA, HI, and AK.

Mid West Regional Project Managers

Mid West Regional Project Managers Stewart Elliott & Lon CookeStewart Elliott

After studies in Architecture, Art, and Sociology (Boston University), Stewart Elliott returned to his family roots and entered his father’s architectural profession. After a year in the restoration of 18th century timber frame buildings in ME and NH, his construction company began building new residential and commercial structures using this Centuries old Timber Frame system.

Years later, Stewart became a leader in hands on, on-site, workshops throughout the county. In 1978, Stewart’s career continued its evolution when he began project management for new timber and panel homes throughout the country. Stewart later became sales manager for one of the largest timber frame manufacturers in the US.

Stewart authored 3 books on timber framing; The Timber Framing Book (1977), The Timber Frame Plan Book (1978), and The Timber Frame Raising Book (1979).

He has continuously written articles (Fine Homebuilding, Mother Earth News, Whole Earth, and Solar Age), made presentations at conferences, Log and Timber shows, EcoBuild USA, Traditional Building Conference, Timber Frame Business Council, and taught workshops at  the University and Community college level.

He continues to believe that timber frame businesses, including building components businesses (SIPs and ICFs) have the opportunity to lead the construction industry toward sustainability and energy conservation by building elegant and energy efficient homes and commercial structures.

In June of 2014, he was a founding member of Timberframe Midwest, LLC and assumed responsibility (along with Lon Cooke) for Woodhouse’s Midwest Region as Regional Project Manager.

The Advantages of Building in the Winter

Woodhouse Timber Frame - Winter Building

Custom Woodhouse – Douglas Fir Frame – View more photos>>

Today we’d like to share some thoughts on the advantages of building in the winter – believe it or not, there are many!

  • First, general contractors and tradespeople are looking for work in the winter because, just as you thought, many people believe that they should not attempt to build their home in the cold months. This desire may translate into cost savings as builders offer discounts to insure that they have work year-round.
  • It’s not just work that a tradesperson wants, however. What they really want is inside work! A key feature of our construction process, which is different from traditional construction, is the use of Structural Insulated Panels (SIPs). SIPs allow the homebuilder to get to an insulated shell much faster. And the SIPs are so energy efficient that it is easy to keep the project warm with minimal energy usage.
  • Concerned about snow removal? There may be some added cost to keep the driveway and work site clear but, in reality, snow is no bother and, in fact, it is easier to deal with than rain when using tarps to keep things dry. Add to that snow’s insulating properties, and you won’t have to be concerned with deep ground freezing.

Waiting to build can incur additional cost (material and labor price increases, interest rate changes, cost of inventory, etc.) and that is why it always makes (financial) sense to build sooner rather than later. Like many tradespeople, we actually offer discounts to clients taking delivery in the winter (it’s our slow time too). A winter construction schedule means your family can move in sooner and get settled with new schools, friends, and routines.

Please speak with your Regional Project Manager if you would like to explore the idea of building this winter. Contact us at info@timberframe1.com or please call: 800-227-4311.
